There seems to be an issue with the API and google's services but the Discord Team says they are working on it right now and are waiting for a response from Google Engineers. I include screenshots of their twitter and the issue message that the Discord app keeps displaying. According to Twitter it has affected quite a few people so i'm not the only one thankfully and the Discord Team are working hard to correct it.
