Why is Japanese yen worth so little?

The Yen is purposefully kept artificially low by the Japanese government (especially in relationship to the Dollar) because Japan's economy runs on exporting. The US has, traditionally, been a major IMPORTING country and so historically we've always tried to keep the dollar strong in relation to other currencies.
